Dedicating Time To Working Out

So, how does a personal trainer turned Realtor still get his workouts in…good question.  I truly appreciate how difficult it is being on the other side of the equation.  I always took it for granted and wondered why some of the people I trained would more or less not exercise.  To be perfectly honest, I have had a hard time with it too.  We all have excuses…even old trainers.  It comes down to three things…prioritizing, time-blocking, and honoring that commitment.  If it’s important enough for you to commit to, then start by putting it in your calendar.  If you put it in your calendar, guess what, that doesn’t mean it gets done.  You have to honor that time you blocked off for exercise by doing it.  Easy enough, right?  It should be…but it’s not.  Why do people still have a difficult time with this?  Maybe it’s human nature.  Feel free to brainstorm and comment.  In my next blog I will comment on what has helped me with my commitments.

A Career Change = A Lifestyle Change!

A career change for me has come with a lifestyle change too.  For one, I had to go out and buy pants!  FYI, I hate clothes shopping.  I had worn workout clothes to work for many, many years.  Now I wear dress slacks and something of the equivalent up top.  Two, as a personal trainer, I more or less did mini-workouts all day long…at the very least I was moving all day long.  On a break between clients, I’d get my own workout in.  As a Realtor, I more or less sit all day long.  Phone calls, notes, social media, driving, classes, etc.  Yes, I show homes and walk some, but it’s not the same.  This has been a difficult adjustment!  So, how have I coped?  Have you ever had a career change that affected your lifestyle?   I would love to hear your comments!

How to Begin the Career Change Process

How does one completely change careers…where do you begin?  Brainstorm all avenues, even those incredibly unlikely, and include your significant other/support in the process.  Start thinking about “transferable skills”.  These are not necessarily educational based, but rather things that you are good at.  Also, think about what you are passionate about.  My story started on a walk with the girls, my wife, and dog.  My wife was the one who asked me, “Have you ever thought about being a Realtor”?  A light bulb when off and I felt excited.  I haven’t felt that excitement in a long time when it came to my career.  It sounded like fun and I thought real estate would something that I could be good at it.  After some research, I discovered it was actually feasible!
